Victoria Armstrong of Wirral CP in Merseyside and Cheshire believes the Women’s Coach Development Programme (WCDP) has improved her and her fellow coaches in every department.

How did you first get involved in boxing?

When I was in my 20s, I attended Halliwell Boxing Club in Bolton as I was struggling with my emotions, fitness and weight. I soon discovered I was good at coaching.

How pleased are you to be involved in a programme that is actively bidding to push women’s and girls’ boxing forward?

It has empowered me to be more successful and to promote more female athletes into the sport. I wish this was running when I was younger. It’s positive, refreshing, bold and cool! It makes me feel like I belong.

What do you hope to get from the WCDP that can improve you as a coach?

I think it’ll improve us in every department, not just physically but with experience and socially.

I don’t want it to end! I believe every woman needs this opportunity.

How will attending the WCDP help you in your club environment?

It’s helped me to be more confident and I’ve felt it has helped me to decide to move clubs. For the boxers, they have had the opportunity to attend some of the sessions in Sheffield and see where it all happens.

Who are your biggest boxing inspirations?

Henry Cooper and Jayne Wallace, who was on the Women’s Coach Development Programme herself.
