Women from all cohorts of the England Boxing Women’s Coach Development Programme came together in Birmingham this past weekend for an Alumni event which also played host to the graduation of the first Women’s Officials Development Programme.

The event, held on Saturday (5th August), was created as a chance for participants from each cohort to get together, grow their networks, listen to life experiences, and discuss the barriers that are still present for women and girls in our sport.

Guest speakers included role models: Terri Kelly (Haringey) and Amanda Groake (Hook and Jab) who spoke about their amazing journeys through boxing, as well as Haseebah Abdullah (Windmill) who gave a fantastic talk on how to make boxing more accessible for Muslim women and girls.

The Women’s Official Development Programme graduates were presented with plaques and certificates for their achievements as part of the yearlong course by programme developer and deliverer Amy Pu. Special thanks also went to mentors Terri Kelly, Denise Coe, Louise Gibbs and Emma Smith.

England Boxing’s Women and Girls Officer, Laura Sargeant said: “It’s been an amazing day.

“During all programmes, the ladies have rarely had the chance to sit down and talk to one another on a relaxed basis as we are all so busy learning and developing.

“This day has enabled them to finally do this by sharing real-life experiences and growing their networks with like-minded people.

“Bringing the coaches and officials together is a great way to gain a better understanding from both sides. It was brilliant to see them all sharing their experiences helping, advising, and supporting one another and the wealth of knowledge in the room was unbelievable.”

England Boxing would like to remind women officials that they can apply for the next cohort of the Women’s Official Development Programme by following the details below.
