London Boxing fifth region to split fees payment with England Boxing

London Boxing has become the fifth regional association to pay half of its member clubs’ national affiliation fees for the 2020-21 season, with the other half being met by England Boxing.
Each organisation will pay £110 of the £220 annual fee due at the start of the new season, which will help clubs facing issues because of a lack of income while gyms are closed in order to meet the government’s social distancing rules during the Coronavirus outbreak.
England Boxing confirmed in early April it was halving club affiliation fees for those clubs who were registered, or had a registration pending, in 2019-20.
It will also be offering a 50% discount for individual boxers memberships (£5.50, down from £11) and official and coach memberships (£11, down from £22) – again for those who were members this season.
London Boxing are following Tyne Tees and Wear, The Western Counties, the East Midlands and Yorkshire in helping out member clubs with affiliation fees, which will positively benefit 83 clubs.
Clubs must have been approved members in the 2019-20 season in order to qualify.
London Boxing will also be paying for all active R&J affiliations for the 2020-21 season, supporting the work of its much-valued volunteers.
“We have been watching and observing what has been happening and we have seen that most clubs are suffering from a lack of revenue,” said the London Boxing’s Association Secretary, Terri Kelly.
“When we set up the new committee for the region, we wanted to make sure that funds raised from Championships and by other means were put back into the region and its clubs.
“After England Boxing sent out an email saying it would be paying for half of affiliation fees, we were keen to see what we could do and our nine elected council members have approved unanimously the payment of the other half of membership fees for 2020-21 for clubs who were approved members in 2019-20.
“We have also been keen to look after our volunteers – and also encourage new ones – by paying for all our officials in the coming new season too. Hopefully these two measures will help lift some of the burden at this difficult time.”
