England Boxing can confirm that it hopes to restart its Level 1 coaching courses from Saturday 26th June, subject to the government’s roadmap for the unlocking of Covid-19 restrictions continuing as planned.

From Step 4 – which would be 21st June at the earliest, providing conditions continue to be met – all social restrictions could be removed, allowing the close contact among adult groups that is needed for coach education to return.

As such, and in order to allow a resumption as soon as possible, England Boxing has begun to arrange courses in the hope that this timeline can be followed.

However, should the government’s roadmap be put back, then courses will, in turn, need to be postponed and re-booked accordingly.

It is expected that courses will be openly available to book on the England Boxing website from Wednesday 26th May, but priority in the preceding 48 hours will first be given to those who had a confirmed booking in place when the Coronavirus Pandemic first broke out.

Those people will automatically be sent an email on Monday 24th May inviting them to book their place on a course on a first come, first served basis.

Places that are not taken up after a two-day period will then be released for general website booking.

Most regions will have venues to book immediately, while others not covered initially will have courses added shortly thereafter.

While indications suggest mitigation such as social distancing and mask wearing may not be compulsory at this point, England Boxing will still be issuing recommendations for course participants to follow as face-to-face events return following the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Level 1 Refresher courses

In order to help clear the backlog of demand for Level 1 Refresher courses that has built up during the Covid-19 Pandemic, England Boxing has decided to move it online.

The three-hour sessions will allow multiple participants to be involved for a session where the close contact that is necessary on other coaching courses not a factor.

England Boxing has taken this step having received positive feedback from the Level 2 Coaching Progression Workshops, as well as Box In Mind and KO Racism courses, all of which have been successfully run online.

More details will be announced in due course.

Level 2 coaching courses

Dates for England Boxing Level 2 coaching courses are being planned, and will follow the restart of Level 1 courses.

More details will be announced in due course.

‘Great to have coaching courses return on the horizon’

“After more than a year without coaching courses because of Covid-19, it’s great to have their return on the horizon, although we must stress this is not a guaranteed restart date at this point,” said England Boxing’s Training Course Coordinator, Holly Pearce.

“First priority will be given to those who already hold Level 1 coaching course bookings, but we hope to have more and more courses available as the summer goes on, providing, of course, we get the government go-ahead.

“Having seen how well other courses have run online, and how they have been received, it has given us the confidence that holding Level 1 refresher courses online will allow us to accommodate more people while still be able to maintain the quality of the learning.

Coach re-education, as well as education – continued learning and CPD – is becoming increasingly important, so we’re pleased to be able to offer this online to make it that bit easier for people to access.

“We appreciate that not everyone who wants to do a coaching course may be able to book on one straight away, but we ask people to please be patient while the backlog caused by the Pandemic gradually eases.”
