England Boxing Clinches “Apprenticeship Programme of the Year” Accolade at Learning Awards

England Boxing was honoured with “Apprenticeship Programme of the Year” at the prestigious Learning Awards which were held at JW Marriot Grosvenor House on 22nd February.
The accolade showcases the National Governing Body’s unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
The award category included notable finalists such as Morrisons Supermarkets, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and HM Land Registry to name but a few.
The Apprenticeship Programme was first created in 2022 with Coach Core in order to upskill youngsters aged between 16-25. A range was selected from all over the country taking into account many factors (socio-economic circumstances, ethnicity and much more).
The initiative ran during a fifteen-month period and was supported by Sport England’s Birmingham 2022 Sport Participation, Innovation and Digital fund before continuing for a second year due to its ongoing success.
In attendance on the night, was Club & Community Manager South, Richard Powers, accompanied by apprentice, Rhys McKay.
“It is a tremendous honour to accept this award, the journey with our England Boxing Apprenticeship Programme has been truly remarkable, and it is gratifying to receive recognition for the dedication and effort invested in the programme.” said Richard.
“Competing against renowned global and domestic companies in our category, it was inspiring to witness representatives from around the world.”

He continued, “I am immensely proud of the club and community department’s profound commitment to the success of this programme. The invaluable guidance and support provided by our Club Support Officers have played a pivotal role in the achievements we have witnessed within this.
Collaborating with my esteemed counterpart, Louise Vidor, to co-manage everything has been an absolute pleasure. A special acknowledgment is extended to our partners, Coach Core and Lifetime Learning, for their unwavering support of the apprentices since day one.
Our remarkable apprentices have been an absolute delight to collaborate with. Their evident passion for the sport has undeniably played a significant role in the success of our programme, as well as in fostering a strong sense of community and membership within England Boxing.”
Upon hearing the news, apprentice Rhys McKay said, “It’s a very big achievement for everyone at England boxing. For the programme to be running for such a short period of time – it just goes to show that we are having a massive impact on what we do and the recognition for that means a lot to everyone that has put in work within the lead up to this award”.
