Community Boxing Apprentices spotlight: James Kilobo

The apprenticeships have been created to harness the excitement and interest in the sport generated by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – and provide a lasting legacy. James Kilobo is hoping this apprenticeship will be the first of many opportunities.

What is your name and age?
My name is James Kilobo and I am 24.
Are you part of a club already and if so in what capacity (i.e. coach, boxer, judge etc…)?
I’m not currently attached to a boxing gym, but I look forward to being part of one soon. I have previously attended Carney’s Boxing Gym, which used to be in Richmond.
What has been your favourite experience in boxing so far?
My favourite experience in boxing, so far, would have to be participating in BoxFit and sparring. I really enjoy both.
How excited are you to be working to help your local boxing community and what are you looking forward to the most?
I am really excited to be part of the apprenticeship, and I am looking forward to getting stuck in.
What do you hope to get out of your apprenticeship?
I hope to gain invaluable experience, that will help me in life. I want to make a difference during this apprenticeship while using it to propel me to do as many courses as possible, to help improve my future.
