Busy start to July at Midlands’ Tamworth

It’s been a busy start to July at Tamworth Boxing Club in the Midlands.

It started on the Friday 5^th July when the club’s head coach Alan Keast delivering an England Boxing safeguarding course to 20 coaches from across the Midlands area.

Saturday 6^th and Sunday 7^th July were just as lively, with Alan back again to deliver the first weekend of a Level 1 Coaching Course.

He also teamed up with England Boxing’s Midlands Club Support Officer Mick Maguire to arrange a medical clinic for both the Saturday and Sunday at the club’s gym.

Several Midland clubs were in attendance with a grand total of 93 club boxers passing a medical and being deemed ready to compete for the coming season.

Friday 12^th July saw another safeguarding course with a further 20 participants and the completion of the second weekend of the Level 1 Coaching Course, resulting in 22 newly-qualified coaches for the region.

Add to the total 22 first aid qualifications secured on Sunday 14^th July and it makes impressive reading for the use of the Tamworth facility over the two weekends:

• 40 Safeguarding Qualifications
• 22 Level 1 Coaching Qualifications
• 22 First Aid Qualifications
• 93 boxers medicals completed

Keast said: “It’s been a busy but very enjoyable couple of weeks. Both Mick and I have worked closely together to provide as many opportunities as possible for the Midland Clubs.

“We are both very pleased to see so many clubs, coaches, and boxers using the facility and taking advantage of the variety of courses and activities on offer.”
