Tyne Tees and Wear Celebrate European success

 Tyne Tees and Wear held their first regional committee meeting of the season at Lambton Street Youth and Community Centre in Sunderland on 6th September.

The Tyne Tees and Wear have recently had five boxers selected to represent England, in Major European Tournaments.

The executive committee said “This is a brilliant achievement, it is a credit to the clubs they attend and to the region”.

To celebrate this achievement, it was passed at the regional AGM in August, that every boxer is selected by England Boxing for a Major European Tournament will receive £200 from the region to help towards new kit, travel expenses or  funds to help them whilst away.

At the meeting the five boxers who were selected, were presented with their cheques.

Schools European Championships 

Rhianna Holden – Phil Thomas School OF Boxing – Bronze Medallist

Ruby Cuthbertson – District Youth ABC – Bronze Medallist

Layla Straughan – North star ABC – Silver Medallist

Junior European Championships (September)

Ella Lonsdale –  Sunderland Eastend ABC

Keira Bowen – Redcar ABC

The committee board members in attendance where, Chairman- Gorgon French, Vice Chairman- Norman Close, Secretary- Phillip Hattan, Treasurer- Anthony Cammock, Medical Registrar- Paul Bainbridge and members- Laura Sargeant, Allan Topping and Gary Robson.
