We had 12 boxers in the semifinals yesterday and, with an incredibly high standard on show, seven of our boxers won to progress through to the finals today.

46kg Alex Brown v Erika Prisciandaro  (Italy) – won 5:0

Alex demonstrated a cool head under fire and pin point precision when on the offensive.  The English girls back hand was the telling factor against the southpaw Italian, who suffered a blooded nose as result in the last round.

54kg Sameenah Toussaint v Ellie Mai Gartland  (Ireland) – lost 0:5

Neat counter punching always kept Sameenah in contention against her southpaw opponent, however Gartland would take the spoils.

60kg Danielle Marshall v Sinainn Glynn (Ireland) – lost 0:5

Danielle had a good last round, yet it would be the Irish girls earlier high work rate that would be ultimately rewarded

50kg Charlie Hickford v Michelle Baldassi  (Italy) – lost 0:5

A gallant effort from Charlie who gave it his all against a switch hitting Italian who won all the rounds on all the judges score cards.

54kg Ellis Price v Khunkerkhan Tiulemeshev  (Russia) – lost 1:4

Ellis started the more purposeful in this encounter against the southpaw from the host nation. As the pairing evolved into a battle, it would be the Russian who did just enough in the home strait to make the final.

60kg Adam Azim v Peter Samu Ferenc (Hungary) – won 5:0

A disciplined performance showed Adam can box as well as bang.  Adam displayed neat skills as he bamboozled the Hungarian southpaw, thus securing a guaranteed silver medal in the process.

48kg Megan Bainbridge v Gayane Barseghyan (Armenia) – won 5:0

Megan gave a wonderful demonstration of how to hit without getting hit as she got her tactics spot to run out a clear winner.

52kg Courtney Scott v Karolina Ampulska (Poland) – won 5:0

Oozing confidence, Courtney owned the ring from start to finish in this semi-final.  Outstanding ring craft saw the English girl guarantee silver as she eased her way into the final.

57kg Sacha Hickey v Azaliia Amineva (Russia) – lost 0:5

A brave effort from Sacha in this all southpaw clash against an impressive Russian boxer, who came on strong in the closing stages of the bout.

80kg Emily Asquith v Petronela Schinte (Romania) – won RSC Rd1

Total domination!  Heavy pressure in the opening minute forced two standing eight counts and a referees stoppage to propel Emily into the final.

48kg Joe McGrail v Enrico Kliesch (Germany) – won 5:0

Absolute master class of boxing skills by young Joe.  His technique and in particular his superbly timed left uppercuts were a sight to behold as he cruised into the final.

63kg George Bance v Dmitry Zakharov (Russia) – won 5:0

This was George’s fourth win of these championships and by far his best performance yet.  Solid digs to head and body set up a great victory for George against a host nation puncher.
