England Boxing has announced its squad for the EUBC European Junior Championships 2019 in Romania, starting at the end of next month.

A total of 21 boxers will be flying out for the competition to be held in Galati between 23rd May and 2nd June.

It is the first time that a full male squad of 13 has been taken to the Championships across every division from Under 46kg to Over 80kg.

There is also a very strong female squad of eight making the trip to Eastern Europe, and Performance Coach Mick Driscoll has high hopes of a strong showing.

“This is one of the hardest selections I have ever been involved in which highlights the strength of boxers being developed by England Boxing clubs,” said Driscoll.

“The model we put in place in 2017 means we now have more regular contact with boxers and their clubs.

“Last year in Russia, we took 19 boxers to this tournament and had our best medal haul of 12 medals. I believe this team can beat that if all goes to plan.”

In preparation for the Championships, squad members will attend a residential training camp in Billericay this weekend.
