Nottingham School of Boxing has confirmed it has been awarded the Sport England Clubmark for high standards in Welfare Coaching and Management.

The club was presented with the accreditation by ice dancing legends, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who are ambassadors at the community club.

Nottingham School of Boxing had to submit evidence of work in four key areas – activity and playing programme, duty of care and welfare, knowing your club and community and club management.

Importantly, that information helps illustrate that an organisation has a well-constructed and presented club development plan and exercises good governance.

The club applied for the status back in early part of 2019 and passed their assessment late last year.

But the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic means news of the success has been delayed until now as original plans were to host a celebratory event, which hasn’t been able to take place.

“We have had to work really hard to be recognised as a Clubmark organisation, and I’m so proud of my team here,” said club founder Marcellus Baz.

“It’s really important to us to make sure that our community receives a high quality service and the Clubmark represents that.”

Dean says he feels privileged to support a club that has helped turned the lives around of people in one of the toughest areas of the city.

He said: “What he and the club are doing is amazing, working with young kids and giving them a moral compass.

“They are taking them through difficult times but also giving them a purpose as well.”
