Both when competing in the ring and engaging with the local community, Wimborne Boxing Club continues to strive for excellence in everything they do.

The Dorset gym officially opened in July 2015 and first affiliated with England Boxing in September 2018. Since then, they have had five Golden Girl Champions, three MTK Box Cup Champion, two national champions and a handful of Regional Champions.

Numbers at the Western Counties club continue to rise and they are keen to get a few of their boxers onto the England Talent Pathway.

But while the club is enjoying plenty of success in major domestic events, they are also involved in delivering and supporting a vast array of projects that connect with a host of people.

Girls In Gloves school sessions

Delivering after-school boxing classes within the school premises in a mixture of different schools, working with girls from aged between 10 and 18.

These sessions have been designed to help increase female activity levels as well as to introduce a different sport to the girls that they wouldn’t otherwise get in school.

Mixed 1-1 or small group school training

Wimborne were asked by various schools to deliver 1-1 and small group training to boys and girls who were struggling in school, whether this be through behaviour, bullying or struggling with home life.

The sessions have given the students a chance to let off steam, learn a new sport and have some fun without any pressures.

Girls In Gloves sparring days / weekends

The club have now organised four all-female sparring weekends in the north of the country in Liverpool that have hugely well attended by female boxers across England, Scotland and Wales.

These sessions bring together girls of different abilities and allows them to train, spar and make friends with other female boxers up and down the country.

Wimborne has enjoyed great success with these, and the last one was attended by recently-crowned world champion Natasha Jonas.

Multi-sport links

Wimborne have had various local sports clubs come to the gym for additional training to complement their own.

Royal Marines Fundraiser

The club held a 24-hour pad-athon to help raise money for the Royal Marines Charity Help Our Wounded, where more than £3000 was raised.
