New Era Boxing Head Coach Mark Bebbington is swapping gloves for running shoes in a bid to raise money for Cheshire Young Carers.

He is attempting to run the 97-mile route around the Cheshire Golden Ring canal route tomorrow (19th September) – in less than 24 hours!

His marathon effort will take in sections of the Trent and Mersey, the Macclesfield, the Peak Forest, the Ashton, the Rochdale and the Bridgewater Canals.

There are nine checkpoints along the way and Mark is allowing himself to take no more than a 40-minute break at each after starting at The Old Broken Cross on the edge of Northwich.

Bebbington is member of the Northwich Weaver Valley Rotary Club, for whom Cheshire Young Carers is the nominated charity of the year.

Lockdown has allowed me to get some increased distance runs in and prepare well for this run,” he said. “I’ve gained experience of hydrating and fuelling more effectively for ultra running.

“Balancing coaching commitments and running is difficult and often I’ll have to work around the club, as that’s the ultimate priority. We can often ‘run commute’ whereby running to a place where you are travelling to anyway.”
