England Performance selects world silver medallist Emily Asquith for European Championships

England Performance is delighted to announce that world silver medallist Emily Asquith has been selected to compete at the upcoming European Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 15–26 September.

The championships will mark Asquith’s return to major international boxing for the first time since claiming silver at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. That historic achievement saw the Sheffield City boxer become the first senior England Performance boxer to win a World Championships medal since the programme was relaunched in 2023.

Asquith will represent the England Performance Pathway in Sofia alongside Lead National Coach Amanda Coulson, as part of a wider England squad competing alongside 15 athletes selected by GB Boxing and its coaching team.

The tournament also marks the first senior continental championships to be staged by European Boxing, following the organisation’s formation in 2023.

Speaking on her selection, Asquith said: “It’s a massive honour to be representing the England Performance Pathway at the upcoming European Championships.

“Getting the opportunity to fly the flag at this level is a real privilege, and I can’t wait to showcase all the hard work I’ve put in over the past few months.

“Competing alongside the GB Boxing team on such a big stage, with boxers I’ve come through the Performance Pathway with, is exciting. I’m looking forward to getting out there and putting in a performance I can be proud of.”

The wider GB Boxing team also reflects the strength of the England Boxing pathway, with 14 of the selected athletes having progressed through the national system and the England Performance programme.

The squad includes a number of European medallists developed through the pathway, as well as nine athletes who won medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games – England’s most successful Games in 40 years.

Five of the selected athletes are graduates of the England Performance Senior Programme, which was relaunched in 2023 and has played a key role in preparing boxers for the highest level of international competition, including Paris 2024 Olympian Chantelle Reid.
