The England Boxing Junior European Championships team completed their final preparation camp this weekend in Sheffield.
The Three Lions were joined at the GB Boxing Gym at the English Institute of Sport by Niall Clark’s Junior Boxing Scotland team for two days of gym bouts.
Those gym bouts were undertaken as the final piece of the jigsaw, ahead of the team, consisting of eight female and 11 male boxers, departing for Ploiesti, Romania and the EUBC Junior European Championships 2023.
England Performance National Coach Mick Maguire said: “Preparation has been meticulous, and we have left no stone unturned to ensure that our boxers are fully equipped to perform in Romania.
“Across the preparation period, we have had wonderful support from clubs and boxers across the country, helping us to facilitate the highest quality of sparring possible.
“We were joined by the Wales team in Hereford and now by the Scotland team this weekend and we are extremely grateful to both nations for their collaboration.
“The joint camps put all three countries in the best positions possible heading into the European Championships.”
Team England’s preparations for the tournament in Romania have been extensive, with England Performance calling upon their quality resources to ensure all 20 boxers are ready for competition, with Maguire adding:
“I’d like to commend the England Boxing Pathway coaches who have given up their time and knowledge to deliver activities to the team over the past five weeks.
“Finally, our thanks go to Jamie Mitchell and his Sports Science team who have provided us with running programmes, nutritional factsheets and physio support throughout.”
The Junior preparation camp formed part of a weekend which saw all Performance squads in action. England’s Schools squad joined the Juniors at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, whilst the Youth and Senior squad descended on the British Army Boxing base in Aldershot.
Lead National Coach Amanda Coulson said: “This whole weekend has been a Performance Pathway extravaganza.
“With all squads in action, it’s a great advert for the Performance Pathway and our incredible coaching team who have delivered first-class training to our unbelievably talented boxers.”
England’s Junior European squad will fly out to Ploiesti in Romania on Wednesday 19th July, ahead of the official draw on Friday 21st and the first bell on Saturday 22nd July.
