England Performance confirm boxers for the inaugural 2023-24 Senior programme

A total of 18 boxers have been selected by England Performance for the inaugural England Boxing Senior Performance Programme.
The squad of 10 male and eight female boxers were chosen based on two separate assessment camps, which took place alongside GB Boxing assessments at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Invitations to those assessment camps were extended to the 2023 England Boxing National Amateur Champions and those who have impressed the England Performance coaches.
Between July 2023 and February 2024, the squad will take part in a monthly training camp, an international training camp and competition prep camps while also having the opportunity to compete both nationally and internationally.
Throughout this period, GB will continue to run World Class Programme assessments as and when required, with England Boxing, where appropriate, able to nominate boxers to be assessed.
England Boxing’s Head of Performance, Chris Connelly, said: “The announcement of the Senior Performance squad gives me great pleasure and excitement, as we officially launch the new England Boxing senior programme.
“This achievement has been the result of months of meticulous planning, dedication, and collaborative efforts from so many involved. I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone involved in making this happen.
“This Senior Squad, and the programme initiative, marks somewhat of a new era for England Boxing, providing talented athletes with a remarkable opportunity to represent their country on the international stage.
“Not only will our boxers have the privilege of representing England globally, but they will also benefit from the very best coaching, training facilities, and cutting-edge sports science available.
“The end goal of the programme, of course, is to get boxers onto the GB World Class Programme with an increased chance of bringing back Olympic medals, however, it is our underlying aim to nurture and develop boxers as athletes, boxers and people.”
Lead National Coach, Amanda Coulson, added: “I’m truly excited to see the announcement of our England Senior Squad and want to congratulate the boxers and their clubs for their selection into this team.
“We kickstart the squad with their first residential camp this weekend, where we’ll begin working with the boxers on their development and progression towards becoming international boxers.
“As the domestic season ends for these boxers… their international one commences, and we have lots of exciting opportunities to share with the team in a bid to support them reaching their potential.”
