An excellent display from Team England’s boxers on Finals Day at the GB Elite Three Nations 2023, at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, saw the Three Lions collect 17 gold medals from a possible 21.

15 Team England boxers, in straight finals, joined the 12 Three Lions boxers who won their semi-finals bouts on Saturday.

Seven of the straight finals were all-England bouts, while England’s Alex Bryant defeated Wales’ Carys Mainwaring in the other straight final.

England suffered just four Finals Day defeats to the participating home nations, with three defeats to Scotland and one to Wales respectively.

Of the 24 bouts on offer, seven saw repeat finals from last month’s England Boxing National Amateur Championships 2023 Finals Day, highlighting the high calibre of boxing on show.

The strength of Women’s Boxing was highlighted once more, with 11 of the Finals Day bouts being Female Elite contests, and seven of England’s golds belonging to women boxers.

“This weekend has been an incredible opportunity for 45 boxers to gain an insight into what life of a Pathway Boxer on the England Team entails,” said England Performance’s Lead National Coach, Amanda Coulson.

“To win 17 of the 24 Gold medals on offer, and to top the medal tally, for the Three Lions, is a great achievement for the whole team and one that each and every member of this team can be proud of for years to come.

“Performances inside and outside the ring were great to witness this weekend and these competitions offer the first step to international boxing for many of the team.

“A key objective of this tournament is to make it a positive experience for all so that the boxers have raised aspirations to want to don the Three Lions vest again one day.

“I’m delighted with the whole team of boxers, coaches and the team manager who worked well as a unit to aid the successful weekend.”

England Boxing’s CEO Jerome Pels, added, “The crowd enjoyed the high standard of the boxers from England, Scotland and Wales and I would like to thank the volunteers, officials, and England Boxing staff for the excellent organisation of the tournament.”
