It was a perfect five out of five victories for Team England on the second day of the EUBC Schools European Championships in Turkey.

Before boxing started, it was confirmed that Paddy McDonagh, boxing at Under 50kg would progress without getting in the ring after his opponent from Bosnia and Herzegovina was withdrawn.

The White Hart Lane boxer will now face Ireland’s Brandon Geoghegan, who came through against Poland’s Jakub Marcinow.

McDonagh was soon joined in progressing as Under 51kg contender Rosanna Bycroft, who stopped Bulgarian Kameliya Zhelyakova in the second round to earn high fives from coach Amanda Coulson.

Lexie Walker, at Under 60kg, was next to go for the Three Lions and she was an equally impressive winner over Ireland’s Cassie Henderson, earning a well-deserved unanimous victory.

The afternoon session saw two boys in action with first Under 42kg boxer George Francis returning for his second bout in as many days.

And it brought exactly the same outcome – a unanimous win – this time over Aexerbaijan’s Ali Baghishov.

The final boxer to go for England was John Boy Hodgkins at Under 57kg and he put in an assured display to win through unanimously against Salman Toprak from host nation Turkey.

Tomorrow will be a busy day of action for the Three Lions, with no less than eight boxers in action.
