Barum juniors to pull 18,000lb in truck pull fundraiser

Junior members at Barum Boxing Club are bidding to pull a truck weighing 18,000lb along a 200m stretch of road in order to raise £1,000.

The fundraiser will take place on Saturday just outside the club and see the boys and girls taking part cheered on by family and friends.

The idea came about when club supporter M. Way and Son said they could provide a Canadian Volvo lorry (pictured below) to help with efforts to raise money.

Head Coach Gavin Lane asked if it was possible to use it for a truck pull and the challenge gathered pace from there.

Money raised will be used to help bridge the gap left by a lack of income from subs and shows during the Coronavirus Pandemic’s periods of lockdown.

“I’m beyond proud of those taking part,” said Lane. “They will take on any challenge that is put in front of them, as we saw in the winter with the Strava running challenges.

“This is a massive challenge, but they never shy away from what is asked of them. It’s hard to say just how long it will take, but I know they will be determined not to gibe up until it’s completed.

“The hardest bit will be to get the truck moving in the first place and then it’s a case of trying to keep the momentum going so it doesn’t stop again.

“We had a tear in our ring canvas at the weekend, which will need fixing, and there are things like that all the time, so to get this sponsorship money in to help keep the club running will be fantastic.”
