Women’s Aspire Programme is back with a bang!
February 8, 2022 | by Matt Halfpenny
The England Boxing Women’s Aspire Programme is back in 2022… and is in high demand.
Each region have been invited to nominate 12 female boxers and two coaches for the programme, which will see all regions coming together to develop women in boxing through three training camps over the course of the year at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
For those selected, the first camp will be on Sunday 6th March 2022, which will be one big gathering of all the regions together.
Following on from that, the camps will then be broken down into smaller groups over the rest of 2022 to allow more focus on development.
Sessions will include sparring, tech work and educational workshops that will run in line with England Talent Pathway themes and objectives, giving the boxers and coaches a great insight into these approaches.
The programme will be supported by England Talent Pathway coaches as well as it being the final practical session for the coaches on the England Boxing Female Coach Development Programme, who will have their graduation the night before.
It is the first time the programme has taken place since 2019 because of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Lead coach for the Women’s Aspire Programme, Laura Sargeant, said: “It’s an absolute honour to be able to lead on this with the support of (England Development Coach Amanda Coulson, who originally started the programme.
“We have worked extremely hard on pushing the support, development and growth of women and girls in boxing, especially over the last year, so to be able to bring them all together for a day is amazing.”
