South Wye bring Christmas cheer to local children’s ward

South Wye Police Boxing Academy has demonstrated its festive cheer by donating a range of toys and activities to their local hospital’s children’s ward Christmas appeal.
After hearing that only new toys could be accepted this year because of COVID-19 restrictions, members, friends and family at the Hereford-based community club sprang into action to support the Wye Valley NHS Trust.
Money was raised during the national November lockdown with a fitness challenge completed at home, along with a raffle, which raised more than £2,500 in total.
The toys purchased as a result were delivered by Yusuf Abdallah, who is a junior doctor at the hospital and also a member at South Wye, along with Bev Moate, treasurer of the club, who works on the children’s ward.
The toys gifted included a mobile games console that can be safely wiped down and passed between young patients, with the club already keen to commit to raising the money to purchase a second machine.
Head Coach Vince McNally said: “It’s great to be able to help our local community in this way and I know our boxers get a huge amount from doing something like this.
“Helping other people helps them learn more about themselves, and the overall response from everyone has been terrific.”
The club will also be hosting Festive Fit and Fed sessions in the Christmas holidays on 28th, 29th and 30th December.
