Orpington & District ABC Celebrates New London Champions
February 11, 2025 | by Nabillah Akhtar
Orpington & District ABC, a historic boxing club founded in 1912, has made a stunning comeback after its closure in 2013. Thanks to new leadership by Chairman Oliver Watson, the club reopened in April 2024 and now has over 100 members, including 30 competitive boxers.
This season, the club is celebrating a major success with the Sheppard twins, George and Harry, winning London titles. Harry Sheppard is now headed to the quarter-finals of the national NAGBCs tournament.
With the Sheppard twins leading the charge, Orpington & District ABC is poised for a bright future, continuing its legacy of nurturing the next generation of boxing talent. The club has a proud history of producing multiple national champions, including Jimmy and Alan Cable, Johnny and Albert Hillman, Rob Mulholland (now the club’s President), Mick Spencer, Terry Pearson, and Ray Mason, alongside numerous regional and county champions.
Orpington ABC, based in Pettswood, offers training seven days a week, including free sessions for underprivileged children. Carded sessions are £5 or £49 per month. The club is also seeking local sponsors to support its growth and community programmes.
With a strong history of national and regional champions, Orpington ABC is ready for a bright future. For more details, visit: Orpington & District ABC. Join them in supporting local boxing talent!
