Help Northern Powerhouse Build a Community Hub
November 26, 2024 | by Nabillah Akhtar
For the past year and a half, the Northern Powerhouse Boxing Academy has been working toward an ambitious goal: relocating to the ground floor of The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge. This space, part of a building renowned for its vibrant upstairs music venue, has been unused since the devastating floods of 2015, which submerged much of the town centre under five feet of water.
Now, the academy is on a mission to transform this once-damaged area into a flood-resilient community hub. The refurbished space will serve as a welcoming venue for exercise and social connection, particularly for local young people who benefit from the discipline and camaraderie that boxing provides.
Currently, the academy operates from a location with steep stairs leading into the gym, making it difficult to access for many in the community. Moving to the ground floor of The Trades Club would significantly improve accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can participate.
Beyond boxing, the new hub aims to be a space where people can come together, fostering community spirit in an area that has faced its share of challenges.
The Northern Powerhouse Boxing Academy invites the community to support its Crowdfunder campaign and be part of a project that will benefit generations to come. Every contribution brings the academy closer to its goal of creating an inclusive, resilient, and thriving community space.
