Nine coaches have successfully completed a six-month mentorship with England Boxing, marking their transition to the Development Coaching team. This diverse group of practitioners bring a wide range of experiences and expertise, which will only strengthen England’s Performance Pathway Coaching team.

Notably, the line-up includes Alexandra Vass, who also serves as a Club Support Officer, alongside former professional boxers Ashley and Warren, further developing the cohort’s depth and insight.

The mentorship offered them nine opportunities over six months to attend various England Performance activities. This was done to enhance their coaching skills and to help them learn along the way. The opportunity has also served those who are existing coaches well as they have been able to develop their delivery and leadership skills further.

Reflecting on the course and his personal journey, Ashley Sexton shared his thoughts: “It’s an amazing feeling to be back at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. I’m over the moon to have made it through; it was nerve-wracking, but to come full circle and work with the best boxers in England is unreal.

I had 97 amateur fights, was a five-time national champion, and represented England and GB before turning professional. Unfortunately, an injury forced me to retire, but through all of that, I’ve gained a deep understanding of what these athletes go through and the resilience required to succeed.

Even today, it’s been surreal—I’ve walked into the gym and reconnected with Amanda Coulson and other England Staff I knew from my time on the English team seventeen years ago! It’s been incredibly nostalgic, and so many memories have come rushing back.”
