NACs 2023: 48 finalists confirmed after exciting quarters and semis weekend
April 17, 2023 | by Matt Halfpenny
The 24 bouts for this Saturday’s (22nd April) eagerly-anticipated England Boxing National Amateur Championships 2023 (NACs) Finals Day in Newcastle have now been confirmed!
The 48 contenders for a coveted national title belt were finalised after a series of hard-fought quarter-finals and semi-finals held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham at the weekend (15th and 16th April).
Every geographical region and association (including the Armed Forces and Police) has at least one boxer through to Finals Day at the Vertu Motors Arena, but the most successful region by some distance was London (with 14), followed by Tyne, Tees and Wear and the Midlands (five each).
There was no dominance by club or organisation as just eight had more than one boxer go through, with each of those (Powerday Hooks, Birtley, Ropes and Glory, The British Army, Limehouse Boxing Academy, Repton, Rotunda and Hoddesdon) having two representatives.
A total of 40 clubs and organisations will be travelling to NE4, and you can check out the Finals Day bout list by clicking here.
The 13 male bout and 11 female bouts will range in weight from Under 48kg to Over 92kg, starting at 11am, with an approximate finish of 7.30pm.
The interval will take place from 3pm to 3.30pm, in between bouts 12 and 13 which will run in 20-minute slots to allow time for ring walks.
English amateur boxing’s most prestigious competition – formerly known as the ABA and then Elite Championships – dates back to 1881 and features a host of household names as former winners.
Tyson Fury, Nicola Adams, Anthony Joshua, Natasha Jonas, Frank Bruno, Savannah Marshall, Carl Froch, Karriss Artingstall, Tony Bellew and Stacey Copeland are just a few of the many household names to have won the Championships in the past.
The event will be streamed live on BBC Sport online and you can also attend the event in person as a spectator. Click here to view the Key Info Circular. Click here to view the Spectator Info.
