England Boxing and Knock Out Depression have come together this International Men’s Day, to encourage men to embrace who they are and speak up when they’re suffering.

International Men’s Day is marked across the globe on the 19th November each year, with the Men and Boys Coalition Charity being the driving force behind the cause here in the UK – encouraging an estimated 400 organisations to get involved in 2021.

The focus of International Men’s Day revolves around its three core themes:

  • Making a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys
  • Raising awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men’s and boys’ wellbeing
  • Promoting a positive conversation about men, manhood and masculinity

One organisation that is constantly striving to help males with depression and improve their wellbeing is Knock Out Depression. The initiative was founded by Level 1 coach and volunteer at Billingham Boxing Academy, Matthew Williams. Williams speaks openly about his battles with mental health and aims to help others with theirs.

He launched Knock Out Depression in 2021, with the organisation providing three separate programmes; one that supports boxing clubs, one for workplaces and one for individuals.

We’d like to offer huge thanks to Matthew Williams from Knock Out Depression and Billingham Boxing Academy, who has recorded the following message offering a rallying cry to men and boys everywhere who may be suffering.
