Wimborne ABC’S Head Coach Dave Rimmer has a triple reason to celebrate after three pieces of good news inside two weeks.

Firstly, the Dorset-based club has successfully applied a Sport England Community Emergency Fund grant of almost £5,750 to ensure the club does not lose out financially during the Coronavirus lockdown.

It alleviates any financial worries for the club at an uncertain time when income from subs and shows has been stopped by the closure of its gym due to government guidelines.

Secondly, Rimmer, a pro-am coach, is to feature in a Lucozade Sport marketing campaign called ‘Keep Us Moving.’

It aims to support the fitness and coaching industry by giving experts in their sports the opportunity to host online classes through its social media channel.

Rimmer has been recruited after putting together a series of videos  on the club’s YouTube channel to keep Wimborne’s boxers busy and active during the lockdown.

He is set to make his appearance on 23rd June, after the campaign launches on 21st June.

And thirdly, Rimmer is to take on a role as Lead Coach at LeAF Sudio Academy in West Howe – the first secondary school in the country to be awarded TASS Dual Career accreditation – in the Autumn.

Those who attend the school – from year nine – currently combine academic studies with high level training for the likes of football, swimming and golf, as well as drama and dance.

At the moment, there is no boxing section, but Rimmer hopes to build that up over time, with the first intake to start in September.

“You could say it’s been quite a good couple of weeks for the club and myself,” said Rimmer. “It’s fantastic to get Sport England’s support with a grant for the club, which will help secure our future and help us develop many more boxers.

“I’ve enjoyed putting together regular, interactive videos for our members and other members of the public, so it’s great to get this recognition from Lucozade and be asked to deliver a session.

“With regard to the school, it’s a completely new concept and I’m determined to mould it into something where boxers who already have talent and ability can take it onto the next level, while not taking away from their academic studies.”
