Six victories out of seven bouts made for a largely excellent second day for England at the EUBC European Schools Championships 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

In the morning session’s opening bout in ring A at 40kg, Sharpstyle’s Thomas Varey secured a 4-1 split decision success over Maksym Altunyan.

It was followed up by another success at 59kg, where West Ham’s Anthony Connors edged out another Ukranian, Oleh Hichva on a 3-2 split decision.

In Ring B, at 50kg, Ellis Panter recorded a 5-0 unanimous verdict against Romania’s Aurelian Marinionut but there was disappointment for Newham’s Emmanuel Buttigieg as he was forced to retire from his 56kg contest against the Netherlands’ Sven Cuppen in the second round with a leg injury.

When the evening session got underway, Newark’s Sam Hardy (above, in red) was triumphant at 54kg in ring A, securing a unanimous 5-0 scoreline against Italy’s Mattia Prezzinga.

The Three Lions also continued to roar in ring B as City of Leicester’s Denaeo George, at 38.5kg, and Pinewood’s Joe Cooper, at 48kg, were unanimous 5-0 victors over Slovenia’s Patrik Remistar and Hungary’s Almos Lantos respectively.
