England Performance selects 16 boxers for U17 European Championships
November 10, 2025 | by Chris Boyd
England Performance are delighted to confirm the selection of 16 boxers for the upcoming U17 European Championships, set to take place in Kienbaum, Germany, between 8th and 18th December 2025.
The squad features a strong mix of experienced international medallists and emerging talent, reflecting the continued strength and depth of the England Performance Pathway.
Among the selected boxers are three medallists from last year’s edition – Lily Bassett (gold), Rihanna Holden (silver) and Siobhan Haley (bronze) – alongside 2024 U15 European medallists Billy Long (gold), Letitia McKee (gold) and Azaan Hussain (silver), all of whom are set to make their U17 European debuts.
A host of current National Champions have also earned selection, while four reserves have been named.
Returning to European Championship action, Serena Mali of Cleary’s Gym in the Midlands said: “I’m incredibly proud to be representing England at another European Championships.
“I’m extremely grateful for all of the support I receive from my coaches. Now it’s time to put in the work and show everyone that England don’t come to take part, they come to take over.”
Michael Maughan of Stockport & Brinnington, will take to the ring at his very first European Championships: “I’m very proud to be given this opportunity to represent my country at such an important tournament.
“We have a very strong squad and we’re all ready to go and win a medal.”
England enters the Championships on the back of a remarkable run of form, having collected 16 gold, three silver and three bronze medals across the most recent U19 and U15 European Championships, as well as the ‘Best Team’ trophy at both.
Leading the U17 squad in Germany will be Mick Maguire, who guided the U19 team to that title earlier this year. He said: “Myself, the coaches and the boxers are looking forward to the challenges, pressure, and experience that competing at a major championship will offer to us all.
“Each and every member of the team is ready and willing to meet those demands head-on.
“We are going to spend the camps leading up to these championships, quietly and deliberately sharpening the tools we have to get every last ounce of performance from ourselves at these Championships.
“This team shows fantastic diversity in so many aspects, including in terms of age, with boxers from both eligible years selected.
“It includes experience, with some of the team having already competed and/or won medals on the European stage, alongside others who will be making their entry into this particular format for the first time.
“This is the beauty and the power of England Boxing – we always operate as a team and bring together all our shared experiences to become and compete as one solid and connected unit.
“I would also like to pay testament to the strength of the EB pathway, which has once again shone through with this team, which includes several boxers that have emerged from the Development Pathway in both 2024 & 2025.
“It is, I believe, a fine example of the drive and commitment from the boxers who have earned their way through the Development and Performance Pathways into this team, and it also serves to reinforce the robustness of the talent recruitment and development process from our EB coaching team across the pathway.
“We are all looking forward to giving our best and, as always, REP-resenting England with Respect, Enjoyment, and Professionalism.”
