England Boxing Safeguarding Week – Day 1
January 26, 2026 | by Graham Hurst
Welcome to Day 1 of England Boxing’s Safeguarding Week!
Highlights
- New Safeguarding Policy – Children and Young People
- New Safeguarding Code
- New Club Safeguarding Policy Template
- New Online Safeguarding Referral Form
We want to kick off the week by sharing our brand new Safeguarding Policy – Children and Young People with you. The Policy lists our commitments to safeguarding and sets out how we as England Boxing will protect children and young people from harm, abuse, and poor practice.
As well as our new policy we have also created a new Safeguarding Code. The Code is a more detailed document and sets out the principles and procedures that underpin our safeguarding approach. It provides clear guidance on how to protect children, young people and adults at risk from harm, and what steps to take when concerns arise.
And for clubs we have refreshed the Club Safeguarding Policy template. This aligns to the new England Boxing Safeguarding Policy and we would encourage all clubs to adopt this new template for 2026.
All these documents can be found on the Safeguarding Documents page of the EB website.
During Safeguarding Week we will be covering several topics including Club Welfare Officers, Voice of the Boxer, Staying Safe Online and Creating Safer and Positive Environments.

Layers of Safeguarding Diagram
Safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk is implemented through the Safeguarding Policy, Code and the associated rules, policies, codes, procedures or guidelines. The application of the seven measures below reduces the risk of a significant safeguarding concern. However, no process eliminates the possibility of a safeguarding concern being raised, and all participants in EB should be open to this eventuality and know how to respond.

Safeguarding Referral Data
The below infographic shows the safeguarding referral data into England Boxing for the period of July 2024 – June 2025.
Each safeguarding referral is logged on receipt by the Compliance team then assessed and allocated for review or investigation.
If referrals meet a certain threshold then statutory agencies may become involved and the matter could proceed to the independent Safeguarding Review Panel.
For referrals that do not meet a this threshold they may be logged as a lower level concern and investigated as such, referred elsewhere (as it sits outside of EB’s jurisdiction), managed as a disciplinary matter or marked as no further action if appropriate.
