England Boxers Dazzle on Final Day of Action

After three gripping days of intense competition, England Boxing’s National Youth Championships 2024 drew to a thrilling conclusion in Rotherham, leaving spectators awestruck and athletes elated after delivering extraordinary performances in the ring.

From February 9th to 11th, the Magna Science Adventure Centre played host to the nation’s most promising young boxers, who showcased their talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the championship. Organised by England Boxing, this prestigious event brought together amateur boxers from across the country to vie for national titles and recognition.

There were many stand out performers throughout the tournament, from Team England boxers to those coming through the ranks. Most notably, double European Champion, Adam Maca (Ropes and Glory) was in action and faced former teammate Leighton Birchall from Jennings Gym in the Male, Youth – Under 57kg semi-final. The intense bout saw both boxers display their standout skills and remarkable determination before Maca landed the win to progress to the final where he eventually won gold.

Jasmina Lujkaj (Redcar Boxing Club) also put on an intense display in her final against Ruth Huntley (West Ham) in the Female, Youth – Under 25kg category where she secured her fourth National title. Upon winning she said: “This feels amazing, I’ve worked very hard for it. I’ve been In the gym every day with no days off.”

“This win means a lot, I’ve got no words…it’s just amazing. I’ve always dreamt of fighting for Team England, I can’t wait to fight at the Three Nations and get gold there as well.”

Elsewhere, Ruby White of Sturminster Newton showed no signs of slowing down. She made her youth debut and took first place on the podium after beating Darcy Munday (Wearmouth) in the Female, Youth – Under 48kg final by a split 4-1 decision.

Mohammad Safari also made a statement enroute to his final, by landing win over his England teammate John-Tom Varey. The intense bout caught the attention of a full spectator crowd who were on the edge of their seats and saw both fighters give it their all. Safari who trains with The Ring ABC in Bracknell advanced to the gold medal decider and eventually took out Harry Hall from Croxteth with a unanimous decision to win his title.

The National Youth Championships also provided an opportunity for rising stars to emerge, with several young boxers showcasing their potential and laying claim to future greatness in the sport. The atmosphere throughout the championship was electric, with fans cheering on their favourite boxers and celebrating the spirit of amateur boxing.
