A total of 10 delegates attended England Boxing’s latest Box In Mind course, held at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The workshop, which has been developed in partnership with leading national mental health charity Mind, was very well received by those in attendance.

The course aims to increase awareness around mental health issues within boxing clubs and gyms across the country.

Mental health difficulties affects one in four people, meaning everyone is likely to know someone who is having problems, even if it is not obvious, like a physical injury.

Course tutor Lynette Mayo, who has a passion to support the promotion of this course said: “It was great to spend the evening with people who were so engaged in discussion and wanted to take what they had learnt back into their respective boxing communities.

“The most important change what those present are going to take away is ask the question “How are you?” more often, and really mean it, and take the time to listen to the answer those around them give. The most important thing you can do is give someone your time”.

“I will be looking to arrange further workshops soon and would like to encourage interested clubs to contact me so that we can ensure the benefits of Box In Mind are spread right across the Yorkshire region.”
