January 27, 2026 | by Graham Hurst
It’s Day 2 of England Boxing’s Safeguarding Week!
Highlights
- New CWO video
- New CWO handbook
- New CWO webpage
- NEW Quarterly Newsletter
- IMPORTANT Change to Welfare Officer training requirement
Today we will be shining a light on our one of the most vital safeguarding roles in our clubs, Club Welfare Officers (CWOs).
We have an incredible network of volunteers fulfilling this role at clubs up and down the country who work tirelessly to keep children, young people and adults at risk safe from harm.
So, why is this role important. What does it entail? What attributes make a good CWO? Watch the video below to find out more…
To highlight what being a CWO entails and to support clubs with recruitment into the role, we have updated and replaced the CWO Handbook, with a new document S21: Club Welfare Officer – Roles and Responsibilities.
This new document and other resources can be found on a new and dedicated CWO webpage on the England Boxing website
Newsletter – Starting in February we will be sending quarterly newsletters to CWOs to keep you updated on all the latest safeguarding news and share best practice from clubs and regions.
Remember your Regional Welfare Officers (RWO) and England Boxing are always here to support you.
Important Announcement
In order to support CWOs in their roles, from 1st February 2026 it will be mandatory for all CWOs to have completed the UK Coaching Welfare Officer Training (previously known as Time to Listen), ensuring they are fully trained and equipped to undertake this vital role.
Workshops are easily booked via UK Coaching with several options per month. To allow clubs and CWOs to manage this change CWOs will be permitted until 31st December 2026 to ensure their certificate is uploaded to the Locker.
From 1st January 2027 any CWO without a certificate uploaded will be shown as lapsed which in turn will make the club’s membership lapsed.
