England Boxing is extending the opportunity for all members who are early-career coaches or boxers making the step into coaching to take part in an online development programme.

It follows a successful pilot programme in late 2020 and is open to those who have achieved an England Boxing coaching qualification in the past three years and are currently registered as a member, or were so at the end of the 19-20 season.

The long-term aim is to support this cohort of coaches and identify those within that group who have the potential to progress within the pathway.

The programme will be delivered via online group learning using Microsoft Teams (coaches need to have access to a smart phone, tablet or laptop device) over four months, with two sessions per month.

Between sessions, coaches will be required to reflect and explore topics and themes and be prepared to feedback to the group.

“Developing new coaches is essential for both participation and performance. This programme is designed to create am online space for early career coaches and boxers who are stepping into coaching,” said England Boxing’s Coaching Consultant, Chris Porter.

“The environment is an open forum with virtual break out rooms to discuss coaching, boxing and learning. We are looking long term for coach development and this programme will help direct up and coming coaches.

“Nothing can replace coaching experience and developing the craft of coaching, but this programme will help to spark reflection and share current understanding.”

The programme is part of England Boxing’s wider plan to provide ongoing support and develop an ongoing coach learning culture following on from the Female Coach Programme and the Ethnically Diverse Coach Programme.

More bespoke programmes will be developed during 2021 to help meet the needs of coaches within England.
