Double benefit from Empire’s March Hare Challenge
March 14, 2021 | by Matt Halfpenny
Tyne, Tees and Wear club Empire School of Boxing is taking part in a March Hare Challenge that is simultaneously enabling them to raise money for charity and get ready for the post-Covid return to boxing.
Based in Blyth, Northumberland, the coaching staff, headed by Les Welsh, has been delivering five sessions a week to the club during lockdown via group messages in order to ensure the team’s physical and mental wellbeing.
But since the start of the month, members of the club have also been tasked with running as many miles as possible in March.
Boxers, coaches and parents associated with the club attempt to walk or run up to five miles per day.
The team has decided to donate to two charities close to the club’s heart – Box Well and the Amniotic Fluid Embolism Foundation.
So far members have raised £440 towards their £1,000 target with the hope of more to come as the challenge moves into eh second half of the month.
