Davision leads England charge against Germans

Charley Davison helped a strong England team claim a 5-2 victory in an all-action duel Germany at Basingstoke on Friday night.
The Attleborough boxer secured a second-round stoppage in seeing off the challenge of Estelle Walker in the Female 51 to 53kg weight division.
Dale Youth’s John O’Meara saw off Argishti Terteryan at Male 56 to 57kg, while Darlington’s Joe Tyers beat Alen Rahimic 4-1 at Male 60 to 61kg.
Another winner by way of stoppage was Hassan Azim, of Pinewood Starr, who defeated Oruc Ozer in the first round at Male 69 to 70kg.
Boxing at 75kg to 76kg, Tigers’ Jodie Wilkinson also impressed in edging out Joelle Seydou on a split decision.
But England did not have it all their own way as Miguel’s boxer Kheron Gilpin went down 4-1 to Kevin Boakye-Schumann at 81 to 82kg, while Gideon Antwi, of Hoddesdon, was beaten 3-2 by Dariusz Lassotta.
Davison was awarded the best boxer of the evening after her outstanding performance, while Germany’s Seydou was awarded the higher achiever award for her efforts in her narrow defeat.
England Boxing’s Development Coach, Amanda Coulson, said: “The team were all fantastic and gave a great account of themselves both in and out the ring.
“We would like to thank the Basingstoke Rotary club for hosting the event annually, which helps give seven boxers each year the opportunity to gain international experience.”
