Brandenburg Cup 2022: day three round-up

Team England experienced a day of mixed fortunes, as they returned six victories from nine bouts on day three of the Brandenburg Cup 2022 in Germany.

Lions ABC boxer Osama Mohamed opened the day three proceedings with a dominant display against his Danish opponent Victor Osipowski.

The under 63.5kg bout was an exciting one to watch and finished with Mohamed winning by unanimous decision.

Next up was Frankie Wood in his under 57kg bout against Germany’s Arian Gohar.

The West Ham boxer produced a competitive display but the victory was ultimately given in favour of the German, by a 3-2 split decision.

Following Wood’s bout, Team England prepared for a busy afternoon session of four scheduled bouts including three consecutively.

First up was under 54kg boxer Owen Ketley as he faced another German boxer in Dennis Bril.

Ketley produced a mature performance to win the bout by a unanimous decision and make it two wins from two for the Lionheart man.

In the first of the three consecutive bouts, Nelson Birchall, fresh off of his third round RSC yesterday, was in under 60kg action against Levente Olah of Hungary.

The Jennings gym boxer was superb again but found himself in a tough bout against a strong opponent, as the Hungarian took the contest by unanimous decision.

Next up was Hoddesdon’s Louie Ward who was up against Poland’s Kirill Globenko in an under 60kg contest.

For the second bout in a row, Team England found themselves up against a tough opponent.

Despite Ward giving a good account of himself, he lost the tight content by a 3-2 split decision.

In the last of the three bouts, and Team England’s final contest of the afternoon session, under 71kg boxer Jimmy Dean Wood shared the ring with Jonathan Jonsson of Sweden.

Wood showed his prowess throughout the rounds to take a unanimous decision victory over his opponent.

First up in bout one of the evening session was under 50kg boxer Ebony Jones.

The Scunthorpe ABC was up against Olivia Jakubczyk of Poland in her third contest of the tournament.

Jones proved perseverance does matter, as she picked up her first win with a unanimous decision victory over her opponent.

Amber Moss-Birch was next up for Team England, this time in an under 81kg bout against Germany’s Sara-Lysiane Gläser.

Moss-Birch was making her first appearance in the tournament and overcame her Germany opponent via a unanimous decision victory.

Last up for Team England in Brandenburg was Levi Barnes. 

The under 67kg took on Poland’s Dawid Obstarczyk in an entertaining bout, with the Jennings gym boxer also winning by a unanimous decision.

Bout 3: Under 52kg – Lauren Mackie v Oliwia Formela (Poland).

Bout 4: Under 57kg – Emily Whitworth v Marie Al-Ahmadieh Canada).

Bout 7: Under 54kg – Owen Ketley v Victor Tremblay (Canada).

Bout 8: Under 57kg – Mikkel Gribsholt (Denmark) v Frankie Wood.

Bout 12: Under 63.5kg – Osama Mohamed v Rafael Buza (Hungary).

Bout 14: Under 71kg – Jimmy Dean Wood v Ramil Schafer (Germany),

Bout 17: Under 92kg- Elwin Mayue-Belezika (Sweden) v Damar Thomas.
