Boxers competing in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games bouts will be given an extra cheer as they make their way to the ring – thanks to members of local England Boxing clubs.

The Perry’s Bull Ring initiative – named after the Games’ mascot (pictured above, with England boxer Delicious Orie – will see youngsters welcome the athletes to the boxing arena, hosted at the city’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

Not only will it give the boxers a boost as they enter the fray – particularly the 14 who will be representing the Three Lions of England on home turf – but it will also act as a long-term inspiration for the young people who will get the chance to get up close to their heroes.

A number of clubs have already pledged their support – with those in the Bull Ring getting a close-up view of the action – and more expected to follow.

The clubs so far signed up, all from the West Midlands, are: Mikey’s Gym, Wednesbury, Bright Star, Windmill, Stratford, Solihull, Cleary’s, South Wye, West Warwicks, Pat Benson Boxing Academy, Walsall Wood, Lions, Priory Park, Acocks Green, Tamworth, Aston, Kingstanding 2nd City, Kronk Birmingham and Hall Green.

“Clubs are really looking forward to being within touching distance of the team and I am certain it will be an inspirational experience for both the young people attending and the England boxers,” said England Boxing’s Competitions and Events Manager, Mick Maguire.
