Almost £750,000 secured so far to ensure clubs’ futures

Almost £750,000 of funding has already been secured to help safeguard the future of England Boxing-affiliated clubs affected by Coronavirus lockdown closures – with more expected to follow.

So far, 190 clubs from across the country have reached out to secure some form of monetary support – often assisted by our team of Club Support Officers (CSOs).

It means clubs who feared the worst after being denied regular income from subs, membership and shows can now look forward optimistically to the time when they are given government go-ahead to reopen.

Among the funding streams that have been accessed by clubs are The Maverick Stars Trust, the Sport England Community Emergency Fund, central government’s Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund and Small Business Grants Funds, local active partnerships, the Tesco Community Fund, the Pohwer NSS grant and local authority resilience funds.

Additional income has also been generated by the ongoing #KOCOVID19 campaign, which has helped secure donations for 135 clubs and generated in excess of £100,000 in the process.

“England Boxing is extremely grateful for the support offered to its affiliated clubs through government and charitable sources,” said Head of Community Development, Ron Tulley.

“Boxing is not a rich sport, and many clubs existing on a month-to-month basis, with sole income from participant fees, which have obviously now stopped.

“We will continue to guide and support all affiliated clubs with the aim of ensuring all 969 of them are still in business and ready to start the new season when lockdown is finished.”
