A Message to England Boxing Clubs, Members and Coaches

To: All England Boxing clubs, members and coaches

At England Boxing we are always seeking to ensure the continued safety, quality and development of our member clubs. At the same time, we have a responsibility to manage our funding so that we can continue to provide the necessary support that is essential to clubs, communities and boxers across the country.

After speaking with members through our annual membership survey, regional consultations, and various volunteer-led sub-committees and working groups, we have decided to update the England Boxing Club Membership Policy and Membership fees, and these changes will come into effect from 1st June 2025.

These changes are as follows:

1. Level 2 Head Coach: All clubs will be required to have a Level 2 Coach listed as their Head Coach. This ensures clubs have appropriate expertise and leadership in place to deliver high-quality coaching and to safeguard participants effectively. For clarity, clubs will no longer be able to operate in their first year of affiliation without a Level 2 Coach who is qualified, registered and licensed on the Locker
2. Club Health Check: As part of England Boxing’s key strategic goal to better support clubs and help them to access greater opportunities for funding and development, several aspects of club governance will need to be uploaded to the ‘Club Documentation’ section of your Club Locker Profile. This includes a copy of your ‘Club Child Protection Policy‘, Club Constitution, evidence of a club bank account, and a defibrillator in-line with the Gym Inspection Checklist.
3. Membership & Course Fees: After receiving feedback from members of the need to keep fees as affordable as possible whilst also balancing the impact of the recent high levels of cost inflation across all of EB’s operations, the Board have opted to increase fees by a limited amount for the first time since 2022. The new fees coming into effect on June 1st will be as follows:

• Club Membership: £240 per annum
• Tier 2 membership (amateur boxer) £13 per annum
• Tier 3 membership (coach, official ) £26 per annum
• Level 1 Coaching Course: £176 per course
• Level 2 Coaching Course: £220 per course

By way of background, England Boxing is a not-for-profit organisation that exists solely for the benefit of the sport, our clubs and our members. Here is how we spend each pound that we receive from our fees and from our main funding partner, Sport England:

The reason for the change to the requirements for clubs is purely safety driven. For the vast majority of clubs, we believe that the requirement to have a Level 2 Coach will have little to no impact on your operations, and for any clubs currently without a Level 2 coach in-post, please do not worry. There are Level 2 courses available for booking across the country between now and April on The Locker with further course dates to be announced for May & June.

And whilst membership fees are a necessary part of EB ensuring that it continues to deliver the highest quality experience for our members, we understand that many do struggle with paying their fees. That is why we continue to offer support through our team of CSO’s to help clubs and members to access grants and savings, and are also working hard on a brand new Membership Package to highlight exclusive offers and opportunities – such as the GRAB Lottery – to our members.
