Community Inclusion Club programme doubling in size for 2023
March 11, 2023 | by Matt Halfpenny
England Boxing’s Community Inclusion Club Programme continues to go from strength to strength with 40 member clubs now on board.
The programme started in 2022, with 19 clubs delivering a successful year of boxing to people living with long term health conditions and/or disabilities, engaging 300 individuals in the process.
That number has almost doubled for 2023, which will allow many more people to benefit over the next 12 months.

Funding provided
All of the listed clubs have received Sport England Tackling Inequalities Funding and / or Together Funding in 2022/2023 to help get the sessions up and running or to continue the sessions.
Many clubs have been delighted with the response they have seen to their offer being made more inclusive.
“Our Parkinson’s classes started off with three and have now gone to 15 participants… everybody thinks the sessions are amazing,” said Colin Neill from West Kingsdown Boxing Club.
“We have members aged from 52-85 and the sessions have positively affected their everyday lives, we are getting support from everybody at the gym and our club boxers are getting involved and supporting the Parkinson’s members, it is so rewarding for the coaching staff, and everybody involved.
“We are delighted to get more funding (in the coming year) which will help us to expand from one session per week to two”.
First year ‘a huge success’
England Boxing’s lead on the programme, Alicia Winbolt, said: “The programme in its first year was a huge success. We engaged with so many people who are living with disabilities and health conditions and the clubs made a huge impact to their lives.
“It is great to see the clubs continue their journey into a new year and to have doubled the number of clubs who are wanting to help, support and make change to the lives of people who are living with disabilities and health conditions.”
England Boxing also has an Activity Alliance Inclusive Activity Programme Training taking place in every region.
The training is open to anybody from an affiliated boxing club and will equip those who attend with the skills to engage disabled people, and people with long-term health conditions, more effectively in sport.
