England Boxing is delighted to announce it will be hosting its first ever Women in Boxing Conference on Saturday 18th December in Loughborough – with Natasha Jonas the headline speaker.

The Liverpudlian, who has fought Katie Taylor for a world professional title, represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics and is a five-time National Amateur Champion, will chat about her journey in the sport, her highs and lows and the adversity she has faced in a historically male-dominated sport.

She will be joined by other guests and speakers at the conference, which will provide a fantastic opportunity for more than 200 women and girls in the sport – boxers, club members, coaches, officials and other volunteers – to come together, share ideas and learnings and be inspired to engage with a wider base of female participants in the sport.

Centring around the theme of ‘breaking down barriers’, the event is part of England Boxing’s ongoing commitment to address the gender imbalance in the sport and open up more opportunities for female participation at all levels.

It will be the first as part of an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion series of that will be staged over the next 12 months, with similar events planned around supporting and promoting participants from ethnically diverse communities and disability boxing.

“The Women in Boxing Conference is a significant step forward for England Boxing in developing the sport from a female perspective,” said England Boxing’s Head of Community Development, Charlie Ford.

“What we want to do is inspire people to help women and girls’ boxing continue to grow and, in the long run, with the series we have planned, we want to support anyone get involved with the sport, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, capability, sexual orientation or socio-economic background.”

The venue for the conference is the Loughborough’s Holywell Park Conference Centre, which is located at Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park (LE11 3GR).

It will start with a welcome and networking session from 11am and will finish at 4.30pm, with lunch at 1.30pm.

In addition to the keynote speakers, there will also be breakout sessions and an opportunity to network and form local communities of practice.

England Boxing Development Coach Amanda Coulson added: “I am absolutely delighted to see the continued rise of women in boxing in England, at all levels.

“This conference is an opportunity to host an event to inspire, celebrate and empower all attendees.  I am excited to be part of what will be an historical event, and look forward to being able to welcome everyone to Holywell Park for it.”
