Kickstart Programme extended to help more boxing clubs employ members
February 9, 2021 | by Matt Halfpenny
The Police Community Clubs of Great Britain is extending its successful Kickstart Programme that enables sports clubs to employ registered members at no cost – and is welcoming fresh applications with immediate effect.
It comes after a terrific response to the first campaign launched in the autumn, which saw 76 placements secured by England Boxing member clubs as part of the scheme.
After the initial strong take-up across the United Kingdom in a number of sports, further Kickstart Programme places have now been allocated, with wages and parachute payments being made available to by clubs.
So far, this support has equated to more than £270,000 going into England Boxing’s network of clubs and, with ongoing applications, it is expected this figure could double within the coming year.
The programme provides opportunities for clubs to have employed persons for a period of six months, carrying out roles nominated by each club.
It also gives successful applicants the chance to develop skills to enhance their personal CV and increase their long-term employability.
The programme is being administering thanks to funding from HM Government – Department of Works and Pensions (DWP).
The broad criteria to secure funding for employed posts is:
- Open to all genders
- For those aged between 18 and 24 years
- Currently unemployed and receiving Universal Credits
- Currently not in education
- Candidates will be expected to carry out 25 hours of employment per week within their club.
Clubs can nominate up to two people for the programme, but ‘must’ be able to demonstrate that the post(s) offered are meaningful and justify paid employment for 25 hours per week.
This opportunity is for all clubs and there is no requirement for an England Boxing Club to be an affiliated member of the Police Clubs of Great Britain.
Successful candidates will be directly employed by the Police Clubs GB Limited, but current members of England Boxing clubs will remain as registered member of the host club, regional association and England Boxing.
During the course of each employees’ term within the club, they will be given opportunities to attend various courses and seminars to enhance their employability skills and profiles (subject to when COVID-19 will allow).
