Nine teenage DiSE students have already been planning for their boxing futures by taking an England Level One Coaching Course.

Each of them passed the course, which took place over four days at SGS College Bristol, one of DiSE programme’s six centres around the country.

SGS students are now offered the chance to take part in the coaching course for on an annual basis, expanding students’ skills base and confidence in the process.

“It was great for me to watch the learners look at the sport from the coach’s perspective, and I know they will take a lot from this course,” said Mike Biggs, Head Coach of SGS DiSE.

“The students really enjoyed the course which was demanding but extremely fun. All the boxers took a lot from this qualification and have furthered their knowledge of the sport.”

England Boxing’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme is aimed at teenage boxers who have the realistic potential to achieve excellence in boxing, but who are keen to continue their education at the same time.

It allows elite and aspiring boxers aged 16 to 19 to train full-time in boxing while gaining qualifications at that can benefit them outside of the ring.

Kevin Hay, the Coach Educator, leading the course added: “It was a pleasure working with the DiSE learners, they worked extremely hard and now have a Level 1 coaching qualification to show for it.”

By passing, the students will now be able to assist a Level One qualified coach in delivering sessions in a boxing gym.
