Vulcan ABC’s helping hand in Hull

Vulcan ABC has diverted all staff and resources during the Coronavirus outbreak to expand its food bank in order to meet the high demand for help in its local area.

The Hull-based club has linked up with the Maverick Stars Trust and Fare Share – who have supported with funding and food supplies – to come to the aid of families feeling the effects of the pandemic due to reduced income and school closures.

Requests for help have been exceptionally high, and the team of eight staff and volunteers are delivering over 100 parcels a day, six days a week across the city.

Vulcan has been added to the local council’s provider list and their local MP and police force have been supporting its efforts.

To meet government guidelines while delivering the essential service, staff are ensuring they keep two metres apart, are wearing protective gear, parcels are left on doorsteps and workers or members of their household who experience any symptoms are being asked to self-isolate for the recommended time.

“Everyone at Vulcan is just happy to help! There are so many people in Hull who have lost their jobs and who are struggling to make ends meet,” said managing director Seb Glazer, who is also a registered social worker, along with a number of his staff.

“The team wanted to do everything they could to support those in need and this just feels like the right thing to do. The mood is definitely high in the club at the moment.”
