Stratford-Upon-Avon Boxing Club gave a bit back to the community yesterday with a free soup kitchen for the homeless and anyone else in need.
Coach Matt Pickering was joined by many of the clubs boxers and coaches who all volunteered their time to help out between 8am and 8pm.
The town’s Lady Mayoress also paid a surprise visit and chatted with Stratford’s England representative Miriam Zouhou.
The Elite boxer told the mayoress all about her recent victory at The England Boxing Women’s Winter Box Cup 2019 up and the Lady Mayoress, who was suitably impressed, both with Zouhou’s boxing exploits and the incredible contribution that the club has offered the community with the soup kitchen.
“This was funded and staffed for the day entirely by the club and we have had lots of help from other local sports clubs and even a local taxi firm,” said Pickering.
It’s amazing how much people want to help if you ask hard enough.”
