England Boxing Coach Education

A key objective of the Workforce Department is to put learning at the heart of coaching and to have in place a system that encourages coaches to grow and develop their knowledge and skills.

All our Tutors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers are from a national pool of coaches who are committed to providing the best education possible and keeping their own knowledge up to date with continual professional development. They are overseen by a group of Lead Tutors who are dedicated and committed to our education programme and undertake regular competency checks of the workforce.

Becoming an England Boxing Coach Educator

We are always looking to grow our workforce of educators/assessors and all candidates who are interested in progressing into coach education must:

  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Complete the Open University free course ‘Coaching Others to Coach’, available here and upload the certificate to The Locker once completed.
  • Apply through our online application form here.
  • Be up to date and current with all qualifications, DBS, Safeguarding and First Aid.
  • All prospective assessors should have completed an assessor training programme matched to national standards and hold the nationally recognised assessor qualification for that course. (for assessor roles only)
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing.)

If your application is successful, our team of lead tutors will support you with every step on your coach education journey until you are confident and competent enough to deliver solo.

All Coach Educators running courses, regardless of what level, must ensure that all boxers, who are involved in any sessions, have a valid QR code, showing a current BCR1 so they are covered by England Boxing Insurance. It is the Coach Educators responsibility to check, and they will become liable if not adhered to.

To gain a Coach Education License to deliver an England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coaching course, you must:

  • Hold an England Boxing Level 2 Full Coach qualification for a minimum of three years.
  • Have a current membership on the Locker with an in-date DBS, Safeguarding, and First Aid.
  • Observe a full four-day England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach course being delivered by one of our Lead Tutors. The candidate may do this several times to become acquainted with and be confident in the course content and structure.
  • The candidate will then be encouraged to become involved with delivery and support the Lead Tutor. This will enable the Lead Tutor to assess the candidate, build their confidence and support them in delivery.
  • Delivery of a practical session. The candidate will need to demonstrate technical knowledge of the subject, be able to empower the new coaches to learn and not “coach” the technique. They should also be able to “read the room” and slow down or move on the technique, in line with the delivery guide. They must also keep the practical module on time.
  • Deliver a theory session. The candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge of the subject, be able to empower the new coaches to learn and not be told. They will need to extract the information and support the new coach’s personal development, whilst staying within the delivery guide times.
  • The candidate will be expected to deliver a full day’s course, ensuring that all planned outcomes are met and delivered to the delivery guide.
  • The candidate will be given the opportunity to deliver a course on their own.
  • Once the Lead Tutor is satisfied that the candidate is confident and competent enough to deliver the course content to a high standard, and all objectives are met, they will then be signed off and can apply for their Coach Education License through the Locker.
  • All Tutors should expect an unannounced internal verification visit from an England Boxing Internal Verifier at any time.

To co-deliver an England Boxing Level 3 Senior Coaching course

Our England Boxing Level 3 Senior Course is our highest qualification and is delivered annually. It is led by our expert group of Lead Tutors who all hold an England Boxing Level 3 or higher qualification.

From time to time, the Lead Tutor group will select an England Boxing Level 3 Senior Coach from the national pool of coaches to help co-deliver sessions. The selection will be based on the quality and competency of the coach. This helps to sustain the high standard of the course and provides development opportunities for national pool coaches.
