Bognor ABC celebrated the momentous occasion of the club’s 100th year anniversary as an amateur boxing club last Sunday (26th February)

The south coast has done extremely well to keep their doors open throughout this period, which is a testament to all those that work at the club, as well as support it.

The century has not come without its difficulties, with the Southern Counites gym having to leave its previous facility due to safety concerns during Covid-19.

Funding for the club was then redirected, requiring the club to raise over £40,000, which its members were successful in acquiring.

The club not only received financial support, but practical support too, with plasterers, electricians, and business owners volunteering their time and resources to ensure members would still have somewhere to train.

The Sunday celebration focussed on the efforts of all those in the community who pulled together to ensure the livelihood of Bognor ABC.

There was also a special surprise for coach David Larner, who has given over 60 years to the sport and club, and is one of several coaches commended for their hard work and commitment.

The club presented him with several gifts, including a plaque to announce him as new chairman and a unique white t-shirt, which tis not normally permitted.

England Boxing’s Southern Counties Club Support Officer, Maz Segre, was in attendance for the celebration and said: “I was impressed by the variety of people and organisations that took the time out of their weekend to celebrate with the club.

“Local businesses, local charities and the local paper were just some of those present to mark what is a fantastic achievement by the club.”

You can find out more about the club on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
