Team England name squad for Nations Cup in Serbia
December 12, 2022 | by Chris Boyd
Team England has put together a strong squad for the Twelfth Nations Cup for Women in Sombor, Serbia following this weekend’s initial prep camp at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Those selected will take part in one further preparation camp between 6th and 8th January 2023 at the same location.
The Three Lions are set to enter six competitors across three categories, Junior, Youth and Elite, with the squad including IBA Youth World Championships and EUBC European Championships medalists.
It will be Team England’s first taste of international competition in 2023, and the first time England has competed in the tournament since securing five gold medals back in 2020.
With three Elite boxers entering the tournament, it shows a step in the right direction of entering more boxers into international competitions and providing further development opportunities for seniors.
The coaching staff in Serbia will be made up by Lead National Coach Amanda Coulson, along with Mick Maguire and John Hodkinson.
Igne Vaitkunaite, who has been part of the Women’s Coach Development Programme, will also travel with the team as female chaperone.
The tournament will be the first time Vaitkunaite has travelled abroad with England Boxing, providing her with an excellent opportunity to experience international competition.
