England Boxing statement – Amateur Boxing activities during the mourning period
September 9, 2022 | by Chris Boyd
The government has published National Mourning Guidance following the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. You can read it here
It recognises that mourning is very personal, and it is anticipated that individuals, families, communities and organisations may wish to mark Her Majesty’s passing in their own way. There is no expectation on the public or organisations to observe specific behaviours during the mourning period.
There is no formal obligation for organisations or national governing bodies (NGBs) to postpone or cancel sporting fixtures or events at either elite or grassroots level between now and the State Funeral.
Instead, we leave it to the discretion of individual organisations and sports to consider how they should proceed during the mourning period.
England Boxing affiliated activities can therefore proceed this weekend (10th/11th September 2022) in line with this guidance. Please note that this guidance only extends to amateur boxing activities under England Boxing’s jurisdiction
As a mark of respect, organisers may wish to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events or sporting fixtures, and Boxers/coaches may wish to wear black armbands.
On the day of the State Funeral, England Boxing strongly recommends that no affiliated amateur boxing activities take place. Any such events should be cancelled or postponed to a later date.
